Fitapreta Vinhos – an Alentejo Region winery

Fitapreta Vinhos – this winery and venue are located some 5+ miles outside of Evora, Portugal. It is very beautiful.

Entry to the winery

The winery was established some 20 years ago by a (then) young Portuguese man who had spent 1-2 years living and working in Napa Valley to learn the craft of wine making. He then moved back to Portugal and bought the land where the vineyard is located. Given the cost of land and equipment needed to start a venture like this, I’m guessing there was family money (my surmise – not verified).

Vineyards

In addition to the vines, there is old house on the property that was built in the 14th century and is now being refurbished. The winery itself is a very modern facility that includes a great venue for visitors to dine and taste the wines.

We had a – relatively – light lunch and an excellent selection of white, red and sparkling wines. The menu was varied and the food tasty.

Our lunch

The guest venue, inside and out, was comfortable and enjoyable. Service was outstanding and we learned a lot about the winery and the wines from the young woman who was our guide. Definitely a pleasant experience
